The Keys to Your Heart

You are attracted to good manners and elegance.

In love, you feel the most alive when things are straight-forward, and you're told that you're loved.

You'd like to your lover to think you are stylish and alluring.

You would be forced to break up with someone who was ruthless, cold-blooded, and sarcastic.

Your ideal relationship is lasting. You want a relationship that looks to the future... one you can grow with.

Your risk of cheating is zero. You care about society and morality. You would never break a commitment.

You think of marriage as something precious. You'll treasure marriage and treat it as sacred.

In this moment, you think of love as something you thirst for. You'll do anything for love, but you won't fall for it easily.

3 Pulled the trigger to end the nightmare

been a while...but still nothing real [16 May 2005|01:15pm]
[ mood | confused ]

This weekend was bittersweet.
Went to Philly to see Asif's film festival - amazing
By going to Philly, I missed an amazing party - shitty...but actually it didn't suck SO much since there's going to be another one next weekend
also...if you didn't know, Of Life & Lithium is kind of done. Geoff is gone, Imran is gone/leaving...so yeah, we recorded a few songs this past wednesday for memories...if they're any good, we'll let people listen. what's up next? I still wanna do Scream:Emergency! for fun with Navid and Abeed, and if I have time I'll be joining Brad's project [especially if Josh Joyner joines the group.......he's the best drummer in Virginia and the 4th best on the east coast, according to a series of Guitar Center competitions...yeah, the boy is nasty]
in other news:
I'm lame. And kind of in need of an escape from reality [damn straightedgedness keeping me from getting wasted]...and what's worse is this: my mom will have to drive me around to school. hasn't happened in 4 years. what the fuck. this is going to suck...a lot. I foresee this to be probably the worst summer of my life...I hope you can put up with a bitchy brownie...it's a rare sighting, I know, but chances are, there will be one until August.
there's so much more going on than just an issue with a car...I could honestly care less about that, but if I feel like gushing about my personal life for pity, I might bust out a "don't read if you don't feel like vomitting" entry...but chances are, I'll probably bond with my brother before I let you in...

I have a quest for this summer [02 May 2005|01:48pm]
[ mood | This is how I hope to look. ]

there will be a good amount of time in preperation and creating the master recipe, but today, I have been inspired by...

THE MANWICH!!!

I'm not trying to repilicate this monster of a masterpiece [total calories = 8591.65 calories] but pay homage to it.
for details on the sandwich:
http://myhighhorse.com/index2.html
others, like me, have been inspired:
http://myhighhorse.com/readers.html
I hope to end up on this list with my monster manwich. but first. I'm going to need a creative team to help devise the design what I hope will become the ultimate in meaty-cheesy-heartattackinducing sandwich craft.
The two people I'm looking to first are those I know who have an appreciation for food, and an even greater appreciation for extravagant creations of deliciousness...Nate and Navid.
I need your help. Anyone else who is interested in participating is more than welcome [we're going to need a lot of people to eat this beast when it's all said and done]
one guy had a good idea with taking a loaf of bread, slicing off the top length-wise, hollowing it out, and filling it up that way with the layers...but whatever, all of that will come later. so yes. please, I need your help. thankyou.

a few things you need to know [29 Apr 2005|05:28pm]
[ mood | drained ]

I have a group of amazing friends in an incredible band [and trust me, I'm not saying this because I'm friends with them, and I know this because I heard them and loved them before I ever found out my friend was in the band] called The Jayden Sentence. Originally, they were slated to open up for UNDEROATH at The NorVa this upcoming Tuesday! however, Solid State Records added another band for the entire tour...as of TWO DAYS AGO. So yeah, The Jayden Sentence got booted from the show, essentially. The silver lining, though, is this!!! INSTEAD OF OPENING FOR UNDEROATH, THEY'RE OPENING FOR FUCKING HEAD AUTOMATICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, Monday, May 16th at The NorVa, The Jayden Sentence is opening for Head Automatica [yeah sure they're all opening for A Static Lullaby...but we all know they kind of suck at life, so they're not really worth attaching to the show] So yeah get your tickets, help support some up-and-coming local artists that actually have real potential to make it, and enjoy what's going to be a sickass show!
If you aren't familiar with either artists, check out their music here:

thank you, especially for putting up with my "a little too excited" promotion of just about everything
I love you [you and all of you too]

holy freakin crap!!! [29 Apr 2005|03:05pm]
[ mood | ecstatic ]

so yesterday kinda ruled
after work I went to Adam's to chill before we went and saw Jam's one-act play at Weslyan. This has to be the single greatest thing that could have ever come out of Adam delivering pizzas. He's like...Enver...archery. Yeah, he delivered pizza to this archery range on great neck [just after the overpass away from the boulevard, it's on commerce parkway] and they said we could just come in and shoot. So we did. I fucking shot a bow and arrow...like the sickass compound bows that looked...actually I think it WAS this one:

but yeah, Adam and I got taught how to use them and then each shot like 5 rounds [of about 8 arrows each]...and we both hit the target!!! [not dead center, but they said if you hit the inner circle at all, you hit "the target"] good times...shit it HAD to be a good time, it ended with freakin chicken tenders and fries from Q Masters [and for those who don't know...THEY'RE INCREDIBLE!!!!!!! trust me when I say this, I know my chicken tender/fry platters...kinda sad really, but sadder that I'm proud of it]

PS, The Jazz Jam the other night was incredible. I miss being in Jazz Band. I'm beyond proud of you guys [mainly Nick since he's the only member who will really read this...and because he kicked 18 different kinds of ass that night]. We really really need to get some sort of alumni inclusion in a performance of Tank! [and maybe "What Planet Is This?"] next year...that would be unbelievable...and after that night I think you guys are good enough to handle it

EDIT
SORRY NIRAJ!!!! I forgot to include you, you're a great piano player, loved your solos, wish I coulda heard more from you on the drums like last year though...oh well

Amazing. All the performers, whether bad or good, rocked the fuck out and that's what matters most, it was a great show...and thank you to all the people who went batshit crazy jumping up on stage and tearin it up...for real, you guys essentially just saved our band, so I'm definitely thankful for that =D
I can't wait to see most of you guys again tonight...it's going to be an amazing show...
if you don't know the details, here they are:

OKAY, FINE. [15 Apr 2005|12:35pm]
[ mood | nervous ]

Apparently, I've got some splainin to do...well Ricki, here you go. [random sidenote before I begin...I have the same birthday as Lucille Balle...crazy stuff. Anyway, for those who don't know what the hell this whole first part has been about, lemme know and I'll explain]

So starting with the entry stating "she's staying"...see, Erica was set to go out of town this weekend which means she would miss both Freaky Friday AND the CiCi's show...which would suck, a lot. So it turned out she didn't go, so I'm very very happy, as you can see :)

okay, next:
"I can't fucking believe this is happening."
see, on May 13th, Geoff leaves for his studio job out in New Mexico [which we're really proud of him for, it's not like he left us or anything, we encouraged him to take it too, cuz that's fucking amazing] okay, well he's going to be gone for a considerable amount of time, and when he comes back, he won't be here for very long at all before he goes up to Berklee College of Music...IN BOSTON. So not manageable...sooo we knew we needed a new drummer. And we had it all set. Everything was good, the new drummer was a friend of one of the bandmembers and he was freakin nasty...now fastforward to wednesday night: 1) we had a shitty ass practice because it's been so long since we've played as a band. 2) we found out that our new drummer could no longer be our new drummer, for various reasons, making our task of getting a new drummer...an actual task. it was no longer a clear option, we would have to search. Well anyway, basically what happened was this: I get a message saying that OLAL is DONE after the show, I was told to cancel all future shows, and that this saturday would be the final time our band would be performing ever. That really pissed me off because there no was no real reason given except: we just want it to be done after saturday. so yeah, that's the explanation for that entry.

okay, now for the most recent one:
see, my reaction to us breaking up was so extreme because everything I heard was through messages, there was no actual dialogue between any of the bandmembers. So when I finally talked to one of the guys over the phone last night, here's what I found out: there was just talk about things being on hold for a while. Basically, the biggest obstacly right now: we need a new drummer. We are kind of incapacitated as a band until we get a solid replacement, and for those who know Geoff, he's a very difficult person to replace because he wasn't just a drummer, either. But anyway, I hope that sheds some light on what has been going on.

Recap:
-I was happy
-I was pissed off and crushed as hell
-I'm given new hope and things are sorta cleared up.
-Of Life & Lithium is not completely over, just on hold. [but isn't "on hold" the relationship term for "slow and eventual breakup"?]

hmm...anyway, Freaky Friday tonight!

I have a confession to make. [beware of crap] [12 Apr 2005|09:39am]
[ mood | exanimate ]

A pretty damned big one too.

I like Story of the Year. There. I said it. *tries really hard to NOT defend my stance or cushion the blow.......................................fails only slightly* It's not so much that I think they're wonderful, but though they lack all kinds of stuff that make you elitist kids need [like they can't be famous, they can't be catchy, and [this one usually gets me to agree with you though] they have to have originality [though almost NO one has that, period.]], they know how to rock the fuck out and entertain.
That said, here is a good review that Drew found on Amazon:

Ok

I am sick and tired of seeing all the negative reviews for this CD. However, what pisses me off the most is that most of the reviewers that are bashing this CD have no legitimate basis of their arguments (with the exception of some). Most of the reviewers bash the fact that Story of the Year have recieved attention from MTV, and that most of their songs sound like radio singles. For this reason, these people want to give this band 0 stars if they could.

My answer as a 22 year old male who has been through the "hate everything" phase is "so what?" So what if a band is on MTV? So what if they are popular? Do you like them or not? Do you like the way the music sounds or not? Do you like the lyrics or not? Do you think the songs have meaning to you or not? THINK FOR YOURSELVES. There is bitter irony in this situation, and the irony is, is that people who are so "elite" that they immediately disown a band that has been on MTV, or is popular are the same people who claim they fight for originality and independence and individualism. Too bad all they are doing is CONFORMING to NON-CONFORMITY. That's right, by disowning a band PURELY for the fact it's on MTV or is popular, you are ironically surrendering your own individuality by buying into the nonconformist anti-MTV mantra. You think you're being original and elite when in reality you're conforming yourself.

A TRUE non-conformist thinks for himself, wears what he wants, listens to what he wants, and if it's MTV then it doesn't matter. Hell, if it's Abercrombie and Fitch or American Eagle it doesn't matter. The question isn't "what can I go against to look like I'm original" The question is "What do I personally feel about something, and is it what I like."

In conclusion: people say "stop buying into MTV and think for yourself. Hate story of the year b/c they're on MTV and MTV is bad and conformist" but here's what I say "stop buying into the Anti-MTV pseudo-elitist attitude and be true to yourself" It's as simple as that.

As for the CD:

Story of the Year have a good sound. I especially like Dan Marsalas vocals because he does a good job singing, and the songs are blended really well. Background vocals of this band are also key. I really like them. The harmonies are on point and aren't just thrown around. As for the lyrics, they're not incredibly interesting but they are heartfelt. Story of the Year write their own songs (contrary to what some reviewers have said) Just look at their site and their interviews. They may not be the absolute greatest band out there and they may not be the first of their kind, but that's what a genre is right? They've also gone through the stage where they tried to please others on their previous album by playing what they think others liked to hear. This album is different, though, because they are playing what they love to play. They are themselves on this album, and that's what I admire. Bottom line, don't listen to any of these bad reviews, and don't listen to the good ones. Just write them off (even this one) Take a listen to the mp3s at the bottom of the page and see for yourself. Do you like what you hear? good. Do you not like it? good. That's true individualism. It doesn't matter if millions of people swallow their music, what matters is what you think of it with no one else's opinion. End of story. I give them 4 stars.

I'll give it a 3-3.5
